The businesses in the Dover region that are recovering the best from the economic crisis associated with the COVID-19 pandemic are those that offer unique products or services that cannot be purchased elsewhere.

That’s according to Margaret Joyce, president of the Grand Dover Chamber of Commerce.

Joyce presented My Country Story on Central Avenue, specializing in local handmade gifts. The company uses social media to promote online sales.

Joyce said there is a new skateboard shop and comic book store in Dover, so she sees the trend in the city center moving towards more specialized businesses that can attract people to the city.

There are also traditional businesses that have performed well even during the pandemic, because buying their products involves emotion.

Joyce said that Jewelry Creations on Central Avenue, which is a Hearts on Fire diamond dealer, has products that must be seen and kept before they are purchased.

“They did very well during the pandemic,” Joyce said.

There are a number of groundbreaking ceremonies currently taking place in Dover as new business owners pursue their dreams.

Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at The Groovy Witch located at 453 Central Ave.

The Groovy Witch is a boutique of clothing and clothing for women.

The leaders of the Grand Dover Chamber of Commerce offer information and resources to business owners in the area, as well as resources for visitors.
