Recent big book sales bring over $12,000 to Ukraine

Books for International Goodwill (BIG) held a special pop-up book sale and raised $12,893 to benefit Ukrainian refugees. Book sales contributed $2,893, and the Hollins Family Foundation matched that amount 4 to 1. The money will go to World Central Kitchen to provide meals for refugees in countries surrounding Ukraine.

World Central Kitchen, founded by award-winning chef Jose Andres, is the first on the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate and community crises. They are building resilient food systems with local solutions and are currently active in and around Ukraine to provide food to those in need.

BIG, the flagship project of the Word Rotary Club, receives more than 1,000 donated books a day at its warehouse at 451 Defense Highway in Annapolis, sorts them, sends 20,000 at a time to underdeveloped areas of the world and donates periodically the remaining books to sell. Books are $3 for hardbacks, $2 for paperbacks, and $1 for paperbacks. Children’s books are even cheaper. The next local sale will take place on April 15 and 16 at their warehouse.
