I have participated in over 75 podcasts over the past year, sharing my story on MASAMI, the premium, clean hair care brand that I co-founded in February 2020. That’s right, 75 and it continues !

While being invited to podcasts might seem difficult and intimidating, I’m here to tell you that it’s actually pretty easy. There are a lot of benefits to incorporating podcasts into your marketing plan. First, podcasts are a great way to tell a holistic brand story (much harder to do with digital ads and our short attention span).

Good podcasts are like binge-worthy Netflix shows once you stumble upon the one you love, you’ll likely be listening to all of the previous episodes. The beauty of podcasts is that they are evergreen, so they can be discovered long after the episodes are recorded.


Plus, podcasts can give people a feel for the people behind the business. transparency has become a mandate these days because people want to understand the founders, their values ​​and their history. Podcasts are also a great source of content. You’ll get some lengthy content that you can use on your social networks (and if the podcast is also a video, you can post it to YouTube). You can also take snippets and sound clips to distribute on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. Finally, search engines will love the content that helps your SEO.

How to find opportunities to be on a podcast

So how do you get invited? The first step to becoming a guest is understanding what you can comfortably (and expertly) discuss. For me, topics include starting a business, brand positioning, juggling kids and work, clean beauty, hair care, wellness, empowering women, marketing advice. , leadership advice and career hubs. Fortunately, there are plenty of podcasts on all of these topics and the numbers keep growing. In fact, nearly 900,000 podcasts were launched worldwide in 2020.

Next, you need to introduce yourself to the podcast hosts. Fortunately, this is not as difficult as it sounds. Many podcasts have websites where you can submit an application to be invited. Many podcasts also rely on networking and communities such as Facebook groups to find guests. Poddit has a “Find a Guest, Be a Guest” Facebook group that you can join. You’ll see podcast hosts’ “requests” for guests to talk about specific topics. You are sure to find the right ones for you. You can also submit your “Be a Guest” profile and see who is interested in having you on their podcast.

How to prepare for your podcast interview

You’ve just been accepted into your first podcast. Congratulation! Here are some tips to make sure you’re ready:

  • Be conversational. Enjoy. Remember, if you say something you wouldn’t like, or if you’re looking for words, most podcast hosts can delete it. Many hosts will make a pre-podcast call to review the interview format, questions, or just get to know each other. You can always suggest specific questions to the host.   • Get the right tech gear. If you don’t have a quality microphone and headphones, now is the time to invest. Make sure your lighting is good if you are also being filmed. Remember to find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed (as charming as your dog is, it’s not great to hear it on your podcast). And don’t forget to turn off computer or phone notifications.
