As I recently sat on my porch reading a good book, two band members stopped by and asked me to donate to their fundraiser, which I was very happy to do. Under the guidance of Group Director Stephanie Bonitz, the Mogadore High School group achieved top marks in the 2022 OMEA State Large Group Contest, 2022 OMEA District Large Group Contest, and 2020 OMEA District Large Group Contest. In 2019 , the group took part in the Kent State Partnership concert and also received an excellent score in the OMEA State Large Group competition. A visit to the Magic Kingdom took place in 2019.
Upcoming events for the band include the band preview at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barberton High School’s Sharkey Stadium and the Rittman Band Show at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at Rittman Stadium.
Come and support the Mogadore high school group and their great performances.
Back to School / Fall Sports Kick Off Thursday
The Back to School/Fall Sports Kick Off event is Thursday at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
There will be open days in primary and secondary schools from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Once the open days are over, the band and sports teams will be introduced.
There will be concessions sponsored by the Mogadore Band Boosters, a bake sale by the Mogadore After Prom Committee, face painting and giveaways by various community organizations. Come support your fall athletes and members of your group!
Semi-annual book sale planned
The Friends of Mogadore branch library usually holds its biannual book sale in the fall, but this year the event will take place on August 27. Books, DVDs, CDs, books on CD, books for children and teenagers will all be available for purchase. Raffle baskets will be on hand for customers to try their luck at winning.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Cleveland Avenue Library. On August 26, there will be a preview for Friends members from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Stop by the library and join Friends for a modest membership fee, which gives you access to the early bird sale.
Proceeds from sales help support library programming and patron supply purchases.
Mayor Provides Updates on Summer Festival and Lions Park Improvements
Mayor Mike Rick provided updates on the village to the community.
“The 2022 Mogadore Summer Festival was a huge success,” he said. It was the first full festival since 2019, due to the pandemic. More children bought tickets for the rides than at any previous festival. Congratulations to the Festival Committee.
Regarding Lions Park, the demolition of the basketball and tennis courts has begun.
“The village was able to secure a $150,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for new basketball, tennis and pickleball courts,” Rick said.
There will be two basketball courts, a tennis court and several pickleball courts. The expected timeline for completion is mid-September. The village has also applied for grants for new playground equipment and a walking path in the park.
